Summer means staying south.
Hurricane season changes the question from where next? to where do we stop? From about July through October, the sensible move is to get below the belt and stay there—Grenada and its islands, Trinidad and Tobago, and the ABC islands off the coast of South America. It is a slower, more settled few months, and probably the easiest stretch of the year for friends and family to come and find us.
The southern options
Somewhere to sit out the season.
These are places we may spend the summer, running roughly east to west. Where we actually end up will depend on the forecast, the boat, and how much of the project list we are honest about.

Storms are rare below roughly twelve degrees north, and most insurance policies draw their line somewhere near it. Grenada sits right on the boundary; Trinidad and the ABCs are comfortably clear of it.
Summer is when the haul-outs, refits and long-postponed projects happen. Grenada and Chaguaramas both exist as cruising hubs largely for that reason.
The ABCs are a fast, easy run downwind from Grenada or Trinidad—and a long, hard beat back east afterwards. Heading that far west is a decision for the whole season, not a weekend.

For most of the year we will be moving. In the summer we will not be—so if you have been waiting for a stretch when we are in one place long enough to plan around, this is it. Grenada, Trinidad and Curaçao are all straightforward to fly into, and there is room for you whenever you can get away.
